Side Scrolling Platform Adventure Creator

Side Scrolling Platform Adventure Creator, or SSPAC for short is a game engine I've been developing in my spare time using the Dark Basic programing language. Basically it's a set of editors for creating a side scrolling platform game. It has a easy to use graphical interface, and when released will contain numerous tile sets and character meshes for people to start creating right away.

Some features I have implemented:
-Main Game World Editor
-Map Editor
-Character and Abilities Editor
-Enemy Editor
-Boss Editor
-Item Editor

All these editors put together will give users all the power to create their own 3d platform game. I've implemented everything from enemies, bosses, abilities, items, weapons, puzzles, events and even cut scenes using music, sound and pre-animated characters.

The reason I'm posting this is I want to know what people would expect out of such a Game Creator, and what features I didn't list that you would like to see. Screenshots are coming soon, and will be posted on the Game Creators Website within the next month.

Suchi-Rukara Pt2

Episode 2: Survivors
"This is the audio Medical log of Dr. Sheiro for the third moon cycle, twelfth day, 11:57pm. At around 10:15pm, I was shook awake by Guard Commander Morgan. I guess I didn't hear the knock at the door, or the commander couldn't afford to wait. Morgan informed me that I was needed down at the Medical center right away. I dressed quickly and met him and a dozen Guard member's waiting outside my apartment. Morgan handed me a armored vest and gun, and started to fill me in as I was escorted to the facility.

Another attack occurred at 10:00pm resulting in one death, and two injured. It was then that I realized why I was rushed with such urgency. Morgan finally had a witness to the murder's, and he wanted to make sure he could interrogate them tonight.

I arrived at the Medical center and was filled in on the victims' prognosis. The young girl, Marline Jurho suffered minor bruises and scratches. The other victim however suffered from a concussion caused by a overhead metal beam falling on his head. His identity unknown at this time. The male was still unconscious from the blow. I started a routine scan but too my surprise I found no indications of a concussion. When I asked the nurse about the initial scan, she showed me her results. Either the machine is faulty, or this man can repair his body at an astonishing rate. I doubt it, the machines in this place have been breaking down more recently, and with the budget cut, it's hard to make repairs when needed. The scans are unreliable at this time.

Satisfied the male was stable I examined the girl who was still shaken from the attack. Other then the minor scratches and bruises, she is fine. She'll be kept at the center overnight for safety reasons.

After finishing my exams Morgan didn't waist any time and started to interrogate Marline. I stayed to make sure he didn't overdue it. It seems the girl was coming home after visiting Miller's store, but wasn't able to make lock down in time. She started to explain how she saw the first victim being killed, but started to break down crying. I suggested that Commander Morgan come back in the morning so the girl could get some rest. He tried to disagree, so I had to pull rank which ended in a confrontation I didn't want. Before leaving he assigned five of the twelve Guards' to stay with us for the night...how thoughtful of him.

With nothing more to add, end Medical audio log."

Dr. Sheiro hits a few buttons on her desk terminal, and the screen goes blank. She sits back in her chair and starts to rub her eyes. Someone knocks lightly on her office door.
"Come in."
A short man with a toolbox opens the door and walks up to Dr. Sheiro handing her a sheet of paper. She takes it then looks at the man.
"Lucky for me you had the night shift tonight. Did you find the problem?"
The man scratches the back of his head and looks at the doctor with a half smile.
"Actually I found nothing wrong. Everything is working perfectly fine. I tightened a few bolts, but other then that, it works."
Dr. Sheiro rotates in her chair and turns on her terminal pulling up medical records from the male victim.
"Thank you for checking Lee, if you would excuse me I have some work too do."
The man nods and walks out of the office and closes the door. Dr. Sheiro pushes a few more buttons, and an image of the male's scans is displayed in three dimensions in the air above the terminal.

Suchi-Rukara Pt1

Introduction:
Suchi-Rukara is a set of short story's I came up with back in my grade schools days, when I just started discovering my passion for creating worlds and telling story's. Since then the only printed copy has sat in a drawer at my parents house. I recently found it in summer of 2006, and have been since re-writing the story, to give the characters more depth, and add more to the story using the knowledge I have gained. I'm hoping to later make this into a series, but for now this project will be placed on the back burner for a later date.

The story centers around a young man who comes to the rescue of a girl, and is injured, causing him to have short term amnesia. The young man is taken to the girls home where an adventure into his own identity leads to a string of events that will change the course of this girls life. Not to go any further, here's the first chapter for Suchi-Rukara.

Episode I: Encounter
You shouldn't be out this late, the words are stuck in my head even now. After convincing my father we needed potatoes for the soap, he gave up and sent me on my way. I arrived at Miller's Store just as Karl was locking up. He looked at me as if I were crazy, but I just smiled and he let me in.
"Cutting it a little close, are we little Marline?"
Now it was my turn to look at him as if he were crazy.
"I'm not little anymore Karl, your just shrinking from old age. I need some potatoes for dinner."
The man chuckles and then walks into the back of the store, the vegetables would be in storage so they would stay fresh longer. It's hard to get organic food growing in the city. The land outside the city are a waist land of wreckage...a reminder of the last war. No one really knows what happened, how the war ended, it just did. There was nothing left, just dead land.
After the war, the city closed itself off from the world, for protection is what the leaders said. Life is hard for everyone in the city, but we manage and we are still alive.
Karl emerges from the back and sets a bag with three potatoes inside on the counter.
"Sorry Marline, this is all I can sell you this week."
The potatoes were already starting to go bad. The vegetable harvest must have been less this week. Things are getting worse, it seems we have less and less food and supplies everyday.
"This will be plenty for dinner."
Karl nods his head and punches a few keys on the computer terminal set in the counter.
"Eighteen credits Marline."
The harvest must have been really bad this week! That's double the price then usual. I'll use one potato tonight, and save the other two for another meal. Reaching into my pocket, I pull out my card and hand it to Karl. He swipes it over the terminal screen then hands it back. After waiting a few seconds, he nods and hands me the small bag of potatoes.
"There you are Miss. Marline. Now hurry home before lock down."
I take the potatoes and head for the door waving back.
"Thank you Mr. Miller. Have a good night."
The cold wind chills my face as I step outside. The city's center clock chimes once and I look up and note the time, 9:45. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from my apartment to Miller's Store. I'll have to run to make it home before lock down. I start to run down the side walk passing a few people as they also rush to get home in time. The lock down was created after the string of murders that started ten years ago, and still continue today. The first night, a couple was found dead...mutilated is the better term to describe it. Their bodies cut into sections and scattered across the city streets. The next night, two more bodies were found in the same condition. Then the next night 4 bodies were found. The next night, 8 bodies were found. The local guard had an investigation, but could never find the killer. The facts they did turn up were the cause of death was a knife used with deadly precision. They also discovered that the time of death for all the victims were just after 10:00pm. Unable to capture the killer, the guard put into effect the lock down. Every night at 10:00pm, everyone is to be inside their homes and locked up. Anyone caught on the streets after lock down were left to fend for them selfs. Not even the guard stay out past 10:00pm.
My apartment is only a block away, where I'll cook dinner for my father and I. Where we will be safe. The distant city clock starts to chime, and my gut twists into a knot. Shit it's 10:00pm already! ? I have to hurry, my apartment is across the street.
"Yaaagh!"
A scream, it came from the side alley. I look over, my stomach begins to twist even more. A man lay suspended in the air, his eyes rolled back into his head. No, he's being held up, a long blade is protruding from his chest. The blood, there's so much blood. His cloths and the ground are covered in blood. I can't move! Why can't I move!? I want to cry out, someone help me. I can't speak! Someone please help me!
The bodies moving, no it' s dropping to the ground. The killer is walking towards me. The light from the street reflects off the killer, his hands covered in blood. Not him...it. It looks human, but it's made of metal. It's head has a single eye glowing faintly red. It's coming after me! I still can't move. No, this isn't happening...I should be home cooking dinner, safe locked up in my apartment. He's running towards me, I have to move now! My legs are moving, I'm almost there. Don't look back, just get to the door. I can hear clanking of metal against the ground, he's running faster towards me. I look back, his body now fully revealed under the street's lights. What is he!? Someone help me, I have to scream!
"Aaaaaaaaaaah!"
Darkness is filling my vision, I'm getting dizzy. I can't run anymore. Help me!

Full Imersion Fantasy Adventure Pt1

Over the past 10 or more years, the gaming industry has become what I feared it would eventually become. Controlled by corporate junk-heads, game production houses are spitting out useless and horrible games with no imagination or innovation. There are still company's that have a creative edge, but not so many as to be noticed by the average gamer. This is one of my reason's to remain a Indie Developer, allowing me to keep my creative freedom without someone chopping up my ideas, and adding new elements because they believe it will sell more.

Over the past 4 years, I have been designing an adventure game that is unique, innovated, and to the point, would impact the gamer in a way that they would remember how much fun they had playing it. I have not come up with a title for this game, but once I start production I'm sure one will come to me that will best fit such a game.

There are many concepts and ideas I wish to implement in this game. I want it to always be in first person, from game play to cut scenes. This will allow the player to really feel like they are the character, seeing through his eyes, and playing out their life. The game will have a fantasy theme, but I do not want you to confuse 'fantasy' for elves, dwarfs, and goblins. The typical Tolkan genre game. It's a fantasy game because it is in no way similar to the earth we live on now. From flora, to animals, to intelligent life, everything you see in this game you will have never seen before. A grand undertaking you might say, but something that I believe will make a greater experience. I believe designing the world before the story is the best way to create such a game as well. It gives me a base for everything, and gives me the needed medium to tell the story. This game is meant to be not just a great adventure, but an escape from reality for the player. To let their imaginations run wild as they walk this world I created.

A lot of talk, and maybe my ego will get the best of me, but I will not quit this project ever. Whether it takes me a life time to create, I will see it through the end. I'm hoping to get the descriptions of the world and it's content up in the next few weeks. This was only an introduction into what I wanted to accomplish, and I hope people will read further into this creation as it unfolds.

Creativity Overload

Ever since I could remember, I have always taken on more then I could handle. I will start a project, then half way through, start another. It's a curse, and so often I abandon or forget projects, leaving them to rote away in a notebook, or file. I'm constantly flooded with ideas and story's, so much that I loose sight of everything around me, and when I try to re-grasp reality I start to loose those ideas. It's a never ending battle with my mind's attention span, but not something that I will let take control of me, not anymore at least.

So I've decided to create a blog, to bring to order my chaotic thinking, and organize my ideas. I'm a writer, programer, animator, and story teller. I hope this will push me past my curse, and help me accomplish my goals in life. This will also help me publish my ideas for other's to read, and critique my works. Something I need in order to grow in my skill.

I plan on starting small, and publish some of my largest projects that are already into preproduction. I also have several lectures I've created on design theory, C.G.I. design, and game development that I hope will help others accomplish their goals by learning from my personal experiences.

With nothing more to add, I'll say farewell.
